Picking the right yacht and the right crew is crucial to the success of your crewed yacht charter, and your most reliable way of choosing is by working through a reliable yacht charter agency that knows the boats and the crews personally. The Internet has made it possible to find out lots more about chartering than ever before. Unfortunately it also provides a low cost means for hundreds of new charter "experts" to hang out their shingles and offer charters without ever having seen the yachts that they're selling, and some have never even booked a single charter!

Many yachts are advertising on the net as well. You have no way of knowing if the information on their site is accurate, manufactured from half-truths, or whether there might be better choices for your particular situation. Nor do you have the protection of a proper charter agreement, the ability to place your deposit on a credit card or have your deposit held in an independent escrow account until a few days before your charter begins.
